Delivering Hope to Ukraine - End of day six

Delivering Hope to Ukraine 🇺🇦🇬🇧🇺🇦

End of day six.

Today Hope and I notched up a considerable mileage, putting us within spitting distance of Lublin, our final destination (well 200 kilometres / 125 miles away). Which, baring incidents we should arrive at and thus achieve our goal sometime late tomorrow afternoon (Thursday).

Someone asked on my business page “What was I hoping to achieve?” Here’s my response regarding what I believe the ride will achieve / has achieved thus far - I’d say there’s lots for us all to be very proud of, you’re a great bunch and I couldn’t have done it without you (well I could, but it would have just been one sad bloke on a moped raising no money, delivering no goodies and not having any craic whatsoever along the way.) Boring dot com in other words. So thanks one and all, you’ve made this ride what it’s become ❤️🇺🇦❤️🇬🇧❤️🇵🇱❤️

And yes we do all stand together.

What am I hoping to achieve?

1. I set the JustGiving target at £1k, it’s currently £1.8k, so I’d say the ride has certainly achieved in this area.

2. The Ukrainian mums of new-borns who will receive some of the new-born baby goods I’ve carried on the bike such as nappy rash cream, warm cotton vests, warm socks, mittens and fleece baby grows, will, I trust be grateful to receive such goods, which are clearly in extremely short supply. Another achievement.

3. The infants and young Ukrainian children receiving tooth brushes and hair brushes carried, also will no doubt be appreciative - achievement for them.

4. The young Ukrainian children receiving colouring books and pens won’t be the only ones happy with them. Their parents will be equally grateful, they have no means of buying these during war time - achievement for all there.

5. The many people (not so much in Germany, but particularly in Poland) who, as they have driven past my bike have tooted, waved, flashed their lights, put their hazard flashers on, hung out of the window or just put their thumbs up. That’s an achievement, because they recognise that if Putin takes Ukraine, they, the next country in line, Poland have friends, such as the country I represent which will come to their aid in their hour of need too.

6. The British Red Cross receive £1.8k minimum from my ride in donations of support. They can use that cash as they see fit helping the Ukrainian people. An achievement for both BRC and the Ukrainian people.

7. I have an acquaintance called Luda, she’s originally from Ukraine and lives in my town. Years ago when Putin was first flexing his muscles, she would tell me of her concerns for her parents welfare back home. I guess my trip will have reassured her there’s compassion within areas of her local community, due to the financial support the ride has received from both local businesses and local residents, also nationally within the U.K too. Therefore if my journey brings her just the tiniest degree of comfort I’d class that as an achievement.

8. Should my bike “Hope” be desired by anyone at auction following this ride (less the £1500 I paid for her) that money will go straight to the British Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal, thus another achievement for BRC.

Info regarding the pics -

Couldn’t resist the sign, Hope and I are still currently on my way to Końskie, although we’ve retired for the night in Ruda Maleniecka. Bike pic - The flag pole carrying the Ukrainian flag has sheared-off at the base (most possibly due to them cobbled B roads), therefore is held together now with more than a few cable-ties! If anyone from my Haynes Four-Stroke days remembers the hard-charging Ken Hanson, his race bike looked like that all the time, he used to present it to the scrutineers looking like that, and we’d not even ridden practice! Strava map shows us tonight, midway between Warsaw and Kraków, not too far from the ultimate goal!

Finally, digs tonight including breakfast approximately €20 (although it’s charged in Polish Zloty).

Night, night sees ya tomorrow 🇺🇦❤️🇵🇱❤️🇬🇧
