Hope has been safely delivered to Ukraine
This morning after breakfast at the LubHotel, who I must say have been absolutely fantastic. Leaving this smart modern hotel located just a stones throw from the Polish Red Cross office, Hope and I made our way from hotel to PCK office. The initials stand for Polski Czerwony Krzyż (Polish Red Cross in English).
Upon arrival we were very warmly welcomed by the whole PCK Lublin team of around ten ladies, plus the director Mr Maciej Budka.
As the director and I emptied the panniers and top box, laying everything neatly on the large table, it became a surprise, even to me just how many items Hope and I had managed to transport over the circa 2,400km distance just within the confines of our small scooter. The selection of items covering important basics for new-borns, toddlers and young children.
I’m told the PCK team will box everything up and write on the box that it’s all been “sent from England with much love”. Then the box will make its way to the distribution warehouse, situated locally. Destined for one of the next trucks which will take it where it’s needed most within the war zone of Ukraine.
Hope, previously parked in the underground car pack of the hotel had apparently become a bit of a talking point. So much so that some research into our trip had been carried out by members of the hotel team.
What happened when we returned to the LubHotel took me by complete surprise. The manager, Paulina pictured to the left and the owner, Robert to the right both took me by the hand and introduced me to their entire restaurant team, the team were told that anything and everything I requested in terms of food and drink etc was all to be “on the house” and I was not permitted to pay for anything. In addition all costs for my overnight accommodation had also been wiped. To say I was bowled over would be an understatement. The selfless generosity extended to me by this hotel is quite simply beyond words and extremely humbling. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for their kindness
I see the JustGiving total (including other cash donations) has exceeded £2,000.00
Thank-you everyone for making this trip such a joy to be a part of.
However . . . ‘THE” absolute star in all of this has been “Hope”, the thirty-nine year old step-thru C90 Honda scooter. Even when faced with multiple mechanical challenges, continued to “give her all” and eventually, with a little extra TLC, made it over the line, to everyone’s applause
