Delivering Hope to Ukraine - End of day four
Delivering Hope to Ukraine
End of day four (or should we say 3.5, as I’ve officially got till 1pm tomorrow for the four full days.)
Hope and I didn’t make the Polish border by this evening, but that was always going to be a huge big dangling carrot for the entire day.
And it worked, because everything today has been ALL GOOD!
Smashed the early start, smashed the mileage and absolutely nailed the navigation
Whilst Hope and I didn’t reach page five of todays navigation notes (attached), we did get to the top of page four Bad Liebenwerda, a spa town on the Schwarze Elster river in the Brandenburg region. For those who can’t understand my notes TR/TL = turn right / left, T = tee junction, RR = ring road, TC = town centre, M/W = motorway and the word “towards”, underlined means head-off in that direction (but don’t actually go to the place.) The note “turn right on 156 after dam” does make me chuckle, we should be there (at the dam) tomorrow, mid morning. Therefore, hopefully at the Polish border within four full days from Bridgnorth, England.
The temperature as we venture further and further East is becoming an issue, I seriously struggled today, resorting to stopping periodically to place my hands on the hot engine casing, with gloves on (usually), in order to get some heat into my hands, see image. We also encountered two snow flurries today, which whilst the first initially panicked me slightly as we arrived in Halle, driving on the highway with folk who deal with this every day did bring me comfort, as they all take this weather in their stride (although most were not riding a 90cc scooter). When I look at the temperature for Leipzig, the most local city to where we were today, it says tomorrow will have a max temp of +4 and a min temp of -4. Factor into that the wind chill at 35mph and that’s frigging cold even when the sun is out. But take the sun away and boy does it feel arctic like.
You’ll note from the Strava pic that tonight we’re directly below Berlin (also that the start has been missed, some muppet forgot to turn it on before leaving the digs ) . . . AGAIN!
There’s a pic here for the VW fanatics too (I appreciate Jason Davies, Megan Bratt & Andrew Calder) the official hand signal is neither of these, but these are the only ones I can find which are close.)
Thanks muchly for all the love and kind words of support
